It’s important for me to give back to my community. To that end, I have partnered with various local non-profits. I currently am the Board President of The Human Empathy Project, an Austin-based organization that works to foster empathetic connection around matters of gender, sexual diversity, and Christian faith. I founded the “What’s My Therapist Reading” Book Club, a free book club for therapists that works to make sure our mental health clinicians are staying up-to-date on best practices. Furthermore, I am a therapist for the Flatwater Foundation, an Austin-based organization that is dedicated to providing those diagnosed with cancer, their families and loved ones access to mental health therapy and support.
I also received a scholarship from APD Victim Services to be a part of the EMDR Project where I was able to work with survivors of sexual assault. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. I have since become EMDR Certified through the EMDR International Association.
